BRIGHT STUDIO/GUEST SUITE
1 1/2 story frame
The children are grown, and the house finally belongs to the 2 of you. For that essential space apart you raise the roof and the attic becomes a lovely studio.
EXTERIOR BEFORE RENOVATION
Counter to the tear-down craze, these folks treasure the memories this house holds. But some changes are in order! Compare this image to the one in the site header above. And notice the small window on the second floor.
GRAFTING IN NEW "BONES"
Remember the second floor window? It appears in the left of this image. Part of the roof has been removed, trusses set, and new walls built.
COMPLETED STUDIO, OVERLOOKING THE BACK YARD
Moving ahead several days (!), ready for the pottery wheel. The tile is new for the work area, but the beautiful oak floors are only refinished. The natural light is what we had hoped for! Notice the doorway to the right beside the windows.
ANGLING FOR A GOOD VIEW?
Enter the door to the right, this is your view. (If you look up, of course.) Recessed lighting keeps things tidy. Interesting geometry draws the eye and enlarges the apparent size of small spaces.
FACE THE FR0NT, CLASS!
Don't you love those windows? And the light streaming through them? We raised the roof just enough for them. The bump-up should not call too much attention to itself! The shelving makes a half-wall beside the stairs. How 'bout those oak floors? The off-white walls really bring them out.
